The media frenzy continues around Tiger Woods’ car crash early Friday morning outside his Windermere, Florida mansion.  The number one golfer in the world is still tightlipped on details about what happened, but published and police reports say there was no alcohol involved and the incident is still being treated as a car accident.

The story gets foggy when Woods appeared to hit a fire hydrant and tree in his neighbor’s yard after pulling out of his driveway.   What’s more bizarre is that Florida state troopers say Woods’ wife, Elen Nordigren, used a golf club to smash out the back window of their SUV to help get him out.  Woods was immediately sent to the hospital with minor injuries and then released.

Irony comes into play because the accident comes just days after the National Enquirer published a story alleging that Woods had been seeing a New York night club hostess, and that they recently were together in Melbourne, where Woods competed in the Australian Masters.

Woods needs to act swiftly and get a handle on his story.  The more time that continues to lapse before he fully addresses the media, further speculation will ensue only adding to the bevy of negative media coverage.

Woods will no doubt survive this spectacle, even if he is guilty of cheating on his wife or driving under the influence.  The Tiger brand is too important to sponsors and has reached almost impenetrable status.  The Woods organization must tread carefully however; otherwise this hiccup can turn into a full blown case of the flu.
